Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and celebrate the life-long dedication of William "Bill" Isler to advocacy for children and for education; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 1, 2015 to be "Bill Isler Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body

WHEREAS, William “Bill” Isler is a native son of Pittsburgh and alumnus of Saint Vincent College and the University of Pittsburgh; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Isler dedicated himself to education early on; initially as an elementary school and daycare teacher; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Isler worked to prioritize and improve education on local, state, and national levels through his service with the Grable Foundation; Pennsylvania Governor’s Early Learning Council; Pennsylvania Department of Education; Council on Children, Youth, and Education; and National Association for the Education of Young Children; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Isler represented District 4 for sixteen years as member of the Pittsburgh Public School Board-five as the Board President-bringing a sense of harmony, collaboration, and leadership while helping to increase school resources; and,

 

WHEREAS, as CEO of the Fred Rogers Company, Mr. Isler works to keep the organization focused on Fred Roger’s original vision of an innovative company dedicated to promoting healthy child growth and development; and,

 

WHEREAS, along with his wife Mardi, Mr. Isler is a huge supporter of Squirrel Hill and greater Pittsburgh, advocating for important causes and working actively to make our city great. Bill and Mardi are also the proud parents of a Pittsburgh Public Schools graduate; James Isler, and the proud grandparents of Lilly Isler, daughter of James and his wife Erin Gleason Isler.
