WHEREAS, the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council is a group of high school juniors and seniors who focus on leadership, development, and government operations, and gives every young person in Pittsburgh a chance to contribute to society through education, community-based resources, and other organizations; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Youth Advisory Council include Melanie Hailsham from Perry Traditional Academy, D'Onna Stubblefield and DaVonna Graham from Schenley High School, Markeshia Harris from South Vo. Tech High School, Joseph Rosenberg, Ellie Gordon, Marcus Cofield, Lioudmila Sorokina from Taylor Allderdice High School, and James Hesky from Winchester Thurston School; and
WHEREAS, the Youth Advisory Council volunteered and assisted at Youth Day 2003, and at the "After School Event for Youth and Their Families" at UPMC Sports Works; and
WHEREAS, during the summer of 2003 the Youth Advisory Council volunteered and assisted at the Pittsburgh Junior Police Academy, and also at the Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church; and
WHEREAS, The Youth Policy Office strives to give every young person in Pittsburgh the opportunity to be a productive citizen and contribute to society through education, community-based resources, and other organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Youth Advisory Council is to have the City coordinate and enhance its existing resources with its partners such as the Pittsburgh Public Schools to ensure young people the opportunity to learn important skills needed for future independence and participation in our community;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and commends the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council for their hard work and dedication to the Youth of Pittsburgh.
