WHEREAS, WQED Multimedia, graphically located in Oakland is celebrating its 50th anniversary with George L Miles Jr., president and chief executive officer and B. J. Leber senior Vice President and Station Manager of WQED Multimedia; and
WHEREAS, WQED Multimedia's five years of excellence in television production includes the "Telling America's Stories franchise, which encompasses national PBS programs like Doo Wop 50, the most successful fund raising special in PBS history; and
WHEREAS, WQED is the nation's first community-owned television station that provides educational, cultural and informational programming, products and services that enhance and engage the community; and
WHEREAS, in the last 50 years, WQED has grown to include tv13, WQED fm89.3, WQED FM89.7 Johnstown, a publishing division that includes Pittsburgh Magazine, local and national television and radio productions, a website, and the WQED Education Resource Center; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, commends and congratulates WQED Multimedia for fifty years of excellence in communications and community services to residents of Pittsburgh, America and rest of the world.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh declares "2005 WQED Year" in the City of Pittsburgh.
