Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh, their 2011 sponsors Cricket, which is one of the largest supporters and FedEx Ground, and countless volunteers including PRO-ASHI home inspectors and PA Occupational Therapy Association for their unselfish work they do for our city's low income elderly and disabled citizens; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 19, 2011, to be “Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, since 1993, Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh, a non-profit organization, has been dedicated to keeping low income elderly and disabled homeowners living in warmth, safety, independence, dignity, and decency through home repair and rehabilitation and in the year 2000, created “Operation Urgent Care” which is a year round emergency repair program; and,

WHEREAS, the major portion of repair work is completed on National Rebuilding Day, which is the last Saturday of every April, when close to a thousand volunteers representing scout troops, trade unions, corporations, businesses, foundations, civic groups, congregations, schools, hospitals, sports teams and concerned citizens, unite in their efforts to rehabilitate the homes of low income senior citizens and renew communities throughout Allegheny County; and,

WHEREAS, the results of the 2010 Rebuilding Day Event were 14 newly installed or repaired roofs, 15 homeowners received new electrical services or upgrades, 35 homes repaired, renovated and modified, 223 pieces of adaptive equipment were purchased and installed, and 6 bathroom modifications were completed using 950 community volunteers who donated 9450 hours and a total of $575,000 worth of work; and,

WHEREAS, in collaboration with City of Pittsburgh Weed and Seed Program and Councilwoman Smith's office, the North American beverage business unit of PepsiCo partnered with Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh on a restoration project to the West Pittsburgh Zone 6 Police and Department of Parks and Recreation after school youth facility at Trinity Church and FedEx team members from Pittsburgh, along with the local United Way volunteered with home improvements along Lorenz Avenue in the West Pittsburgh neighborhood of Elliott; and,
