WHEREAS, Matt Smith has honorably served the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire for over twenty years and is currently serving as a lieutenant, demonstrating steadfast commitment to public safety; and
WHEREAS, for more than fifteen years, Matt has generously volunteered with the Washington Heights Athletic Association (WHAA), the very organization where he first played as a child. His journey from player to coach, board member, and now President reflects his enduring dedication and leadership; and
WHEREAS, to Matt, the WHAA is more than just a youth sports league, it represents a lasting legacy of community and family. Now 45 years old, Matt is a devoted husband and proud father of five sons, all of whom now play in the league, while his wife Katrina actively supports its events; and
WHEREAS, beyond his role in WHAA, Matt also oversees Dek Hockey programming at the Brookline Recreation Center and, together with his family, contributes to the annual Chili Cookoff Fundraiser in Mount Washington, supporting the Mt. Washington Food Bank; and
WHEREAS, Matt’s unwavering devotion to both his family and his community exemplifies the highest standards of character and civic spirit; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Matt Smith for his service to the City of Pittsburgh and his community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 27, 2025 to be “Matt Smith Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
