WHEREAS, in 1967, Freedom House Ambulance Service was established as the first Paramedic ambulance service in the country thus laying the foundation for ALL future pre-hospital care systems - including the City of Pittsburgh, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services; and,
WHEREAS, the members of the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services devote their careers to saving the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Teams consist of Paramedics, First Responders, Telecommunications Officers, Physicians and Nurses; and
WHEREAS, the Fraternal Association of Professional Paramedics promotes the improvement of pre-hospital medical care through practice, research and community service; and
WHEREAS, the people of Pittsburgh benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of the highly-trained individuals; and
WHEREAS, this being the 35th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Paramedics in making tomorrows happen for our residents; and
WHEREAS, the designation of Emergency Medical Services Week will serve to educate the people of Pittsburgh regarding Emergency Medical services; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the good work of the Emergency Medical Teams; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares May 16 through 22, 2010 as "Emergency Medical Services Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
