Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Mr. Roger Barbour for his service to our country and recognizes him for his devotion to his faith and family, his volunteerism and for his gift of music; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, April 30, 2022 to be "Roger Barbour Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Roger Barbour is the trumpet player and leader of the Roger Barbour Jazz Quartet. He has been a professional musician for over 50 years and has played at venues all over the world including Paris, France. Roger Barbour was inducted into the Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Fame by the late Tony Mowod in the year 2012; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Roger was born and raised in Oakdale, PA with 12 siblings.  He became a Rescue Helicopter Pilot in the Army and later received his private pilot license and worked for Allegheny Airlines which is now known as US Air, from where he retired; and,

 

WHEREAS, he moved to Chartiers City where he raised his five children with his late wife, Mary Louise, until she passed away at the age of 52.  While raising his own children, he became a role model and father figure to many children in the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Chartiers City, Fairywood and Sheraden; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Barbour has been playing trumpet around the Greater Pittsburgh area since about the age of 18. Mr. Barbour taught many musicians today as children.  He is a master of five instruments, but his pride and joy is the jazz trumpet; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Roger Barbour Jazz Quartet does many free events in District 2, and other Pittsburgh neighborhoods and organizations, including Save a Life Today Pittsburgh, which was founded by his daughter, Mary Barbour Williams; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Barbour currently resides in Pittsburgh with his current wife, companion and friend, Juanita; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Mr. Roger Barbour for his service to our country and recognizes him for his devotion to his faith and family, his volunteerism and for his gift of music; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, April 30, 2022 to be “Roger Barbour Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
