WHEREAS, Deborah McGowan was born in the Windgap neighborhood in the West End part of the City of Pittsburgh to her parents Ed and Lily Shearer. She married her husband Ken 40 years ago and still resides with him in Windgap. They have three children, Shawn, Tammy and Crystal, as well as 4 grandchildren.
WHEREAS, Debbie began her career with the City of Pittsburgh's Citiparks 15 years ago as a Program Aide at the Sheraden Senior Center. Shortly after, she moved to Greenfield where she became the Senior Center Director.
WHEREAS, Debbie has a great passion for animals. Not only does she have her fair share, she takes in strays and cares for them while finding them forever homes. As well as her love for animals she has a passion for the arts. Debbie has done pottery, painting, stained glass and much more. Her love for music and singing is demonstrated through her programming at the Senior Center.
WHEREAS, through Debbie's work at the Greenfield Senior Center, the seniors enjoy diverse programming such as the Chinese American Program, the Veterans Day celebration and her many holiday parties.
WHEREAS, Debbie is very caring, patient and passionate, not only towards her clients but to her staff as well.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend and congratulate Deborah McGowan for her patient and passionate approach to the people that she serves and for her dedicated service to the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, May 2, 2014 to be "DEBBIE MCGOWAN DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.
