WHEREAS, over Memorial Day weekend of 2014, City Charter High School students Santina Benedetti, Morgan Crist, DeVaughn Davis, Bryce Johnson, Logan O'Hara, and Samantha Richardson competed in the Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) competition at the University of Pittsburgh, which is a national entrepreneurship competition, as representatives of the City High SAGE team; and,
WHEREAS, this marks the second year in a row for the City High SAGE team to win the national competition, which adds to the impressive history of success on the national stage while competing in the annual SAGE competition over the past five years, and offers the team the distinct honor of representing the United States at the SAGE Global Competition in Moscow, Russia this August 2014; and,
WHEREAS, participating in SAGE has provided students with workforce skills, a firsthand understanding of entrepreneurship and business operations, and an opportunity to compete among other SAGE groups nationally and internationally, giving students growth opportunities that aren't available in any class room; and,
WHEREAS, after moving to a new building in 2012, SAGE students worked diligently to develop a new business on recycling called SEED (Students Engaged in Environmentalism Downtown), which has provided City Charter High School with a viable recycling program; and,
WHEREAS, the SEED program proved so successfully that it has been able to provide funding for their trips to the SAGE National competitions, to give modest scholarships to SAGE seniors, and make donations to "Bethlehem Haven" woman's shelter, Tree Pittsburgh and Heifer International, along with donations to purchase plants, flowers and bulbs to improve green space in the school's courtyard;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 4, 2014 to be "City High SAGE Team Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
