WHEREAS, PENNCARE funding provides vital support to older Pennsylvanians through in-home care, nutrition programs, protective services, and senior centers; and

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania’s aging population continues to grow, increasing the demand for essential services that allow older adults to age with dignity in their communities; and
WHEREAS, the Governor’s proposed $20 million increase for PENNCARE is insufficient to address the impact of prior years of flat or inadequate funding; and
WHEREAS, additional state funding is necessary to ensure that life-sustaining services for older adults remain accessible and effective; and
WHEREAS, existing lottery funds have been allocated for senior services and should be released to support Pennsylvania’s aging population without the need for new tax increases; and
WHEREAS, securing bipartisan support in the Pennsylvania Senate is critical to providing the resources needed to maintain and expand programs that enhance the quality of life for older residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh urges the Pennsylvania General Assembly to increase funding for PENNCARE beyond the Governor’s proposed $20 million to adequately support life-sustaining services for older adults; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Council calls on state leaders to release existing lottery funds dedicated to senior services, ensuring older Pennsylvanians receive the care and support they need.
