Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby acknowledges the contributions that C. Ruth Johnson has made to her community, congregation and her family; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 5, 2008, to be “C. RUTH JOHNSON DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 5, 2008, a 90th birthday celebration will be given for C. Ruth Johnson; and,  
 
WHEREAS, in honor of C. Ruth Johnson's birthday, family and friends gathered in Pittsburgh from across the states to celebrate her legacy; and,
WHEREAS, Ruth was born in Ailey, Georgia, the daughter of Isaac and Minnie Ricks, and was one of fifteen children, including ten brothers and four sisters; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ruth moved from rural countryside to the City of Pittsburgh in 1942 and later married the late Sylvester N. Johnson. Jr.; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ruth and Sylvester were blessed with three children, including two daughters and a son: They are Patsy Patterson and husband William Patterson, Emerance McNeil and husband Rev. Willie C. McNeil and the late Sylvester Johnson, as well as daughter in law Linda M. Johnson Wasler and husband Philip Wasler, along with a host of extended family, including ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and,   
 
WHEREAS, Ruth became a member of Paulson Avenue Church of God, now known as Lincoln Avenue Church of God, and accepted Jesus Christ as her savior in 1951. Her testimony speaks volumes…. "May my life for Jesus speak for me"; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ruth's service includes being a faithful member of the Usher Board, Missionary Society and Hospitality Committee, and she also attended to the Sunday School, early morning prayer meetings and upper room prayer band ;and,
