WHEREAS, Travelers Aid has served the Pittsburgh community since 1921 and will celebrate their 90th anniversary this year; and
WHEREAS, Travelers Aid provides transportation assistance to low-income residents of Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh from three locations-the Greyhound Station, the airport, and their building on Smithfield Street; and
WHEREAS, the organization provides bus passes and GetGo gas cards to people who rely on them to visit a doctor, go to the grocery store, or get to work and provide for their families; and
WHEREAS, Travelers Aid is eager to spread the word about their services to City residents who might not yet be aware of the invaluable work they do; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, June 11, 2011 the Travelers Aid Transit Treasure Hunt will send teams around the City on a multi-neighborhood scavenger hunt, where they will ride buses (and bicycles) solving riddles, finding clues, and unearthing the hidden treasures of the City; and
WHEREAS, this year's Transit Treasure Hunt will send teams into Squirrel Hill, Oakland, the Strip District, and Southside.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Travelers Aid for their transportation assistance services, which provide those most in need with the tools to gain employment, keep employment, and complete tasks essential to their daily lives; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 11, 2011 "Travelers Aid Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
