WHEREAS, the Department of Statistics & Data Science at Carnegie Mellon University has long been a national leader in sports analytics, with a rich history of developing cutting-edge research and hosting accessible community events; and,
WHEREAS, in the Fall of 2024, these initiatives were unified under the launch of the Carnegie Mellon Sports Analytics Center (CMSAC), further establishing CMU as a hub for innovation at the intersection of sports, statistics, and data science; and,
WHEREAS, as part of this mission, CMSAC will host the annual Carnegie Mellon Sports Analytics Conference on October 24-25, 2025. The conference brings together students, faculty, professional sports organizations, industry leaders, and community members to showcase how analytics are transforming athletics. The event reflects Pittsburgh’s proud identity as both a world-class sports city and a center for technological innovation; and,
WHEREAS, CMSAC’s goals are to push forward the discipline of sports analytics through groundbreaking research, create innovative educational pathways for future careers in sports and data science, engage directly with professional teams and industry partners on collaborative projects, and host accessible events that inspire and connect the community; and,
WHEREAS, as Pittsburgh prepares to host the NFL Draft in the spring, CMSAC highlights the city’s national leadership in shaping the future of sports through data-driven insights; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Carnegie Mellon Sports Analytics Conference and celebrates both the region’s proud sports legacy and its growing role as a hub for analytics, innovation, and opportunity; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 24-25, 2025 to be “Sports Analytics Days” in the City of Pittsburgh
