Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby extend to Richard "Dick" Skrinjar its most sincere thanks and appreciation for his many years of public service to the People of the City of Pittsburgh and, does hereby recognize and commend him for his many accomplishments in both the private and public sector. The Council also provides a special recognition for his care and thoughtfulness during the illness of Mayor Bob O'Connor. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, in honor of Dick Skrinjar's public service, does hereby declare Tuesday, March 10, 2015, to be "Dick Skringer Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Richard "Dick" Skrinjar, a true son of Pittsburgh, was born in 1951 to Edward and Pauline Skrinjar in Lawrenceville's 10th Ward and, in 1975 married the love of his life, Barbara Clemente of Stanton Heights. Dick and Barbra were blessed with three sons, Zachary, Elliot and Gabriel; and

WHEREAS, Dick Skrinjar, earned a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Point Park University, pursued post graduate studies at Robert Morris University, Carnegie Mellon University, Penn State University, and Community College of Allegheny County. Dick also earned certification by the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health in the Keys to Healthy Aging program. In 2006, Point Park University named him a Distinguished Alumni; and,

WHEREAS, Dick Skringer, as a broadcaster, he was a disc jockey and producer director of radio talk shows, Pirates baseball, Steelers football and Penguins hockey. He became KDKA's first Program Manager where he helped shape the iconic success of the Children's Hospital Campaign and Pittsburgh Someplace Special! His writing, directing and production skills helped to make KDKA-TV's Eyewitness News, Evening Magazine, Pittsburgh Today and, The Marie Torre Show Pittsburgh household favorites. He later served as Penn DOT's chief spokesperson for twenty years; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, Mayor Bob O'Connor named Dick Skrinjar as his Director of Communications and Senior Policy Advisor. During Mayor O'Connor's untimely illness and hospitalization, Dick was consistently the reassuring voice of the Office of the Mayor during one of the city's most trying and tragic times. After the death of Mayor O'Connor, Dick diligently worked to insure a smooth transition and, in 2007, he was appointed by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl as Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation - Director of Community Services - where he once again distinguished himself, most notably for his excellent work with Senior Citizens throughout the city.
