Title: WHEREAS, Mike Gable began working for the City of Pittsburgh in June of 1973, when he took a seasonal job as a laborer in the Parks Department; and, WHEREAS, Mike took on a full-time position in 1980 and began to climb the career ladder serving in multiple coordinator and assistant/deputy director positions before finally becoming the Director of the Department of Public Works in 2014; and, WHEREAS, Mike has led a crew who maintained and improved over 1,200 miles of roads in the City, making patching potholes and repaving streets a priority; and, WHEREAS, Mike has achieved and maintained his professional skill set through his certification as a Parks and Recreation Professional from North Carolina State University's Parks and Recreation Maintenance Management School; and, WHEREAS, Mike has spent over four decades working to maintain and improve City parks, facilities, and environmental services. Title

WHEREAS, Mike Gable began working for the City of Pittsburgh in June of 1973, when he took a seasonal job as a laborer in the Parks Department; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike took on a full-time position in 1980 and began to climb the career ladder serving in multiple coordinator and assistant/deputy director positions before finally becoming the Director of the Department of Public Works in 2014; and,

WHEREAS, Mike has not been afraid to get his hands dirty in both his professional and personal life. He is an avid fisherman, reeling in trout, bass, and more; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mike Gable for his 45 years of exemplary service to the City of Pittsburgh, its public spaces, and its residents, while further wishing Mike a happy retirement, and the best of luck in his future endeavors; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, January 7th, 2021, to be “Mike Gable Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
