WHEREAS, Elliott West End Athletic Association (EWEAA) began a Futsal Club spearheaded by Luke Capurso and Alexander Fould; and

WHEREAS, Futsal is a fast-paced indoor soccer sport played with five players to a team and emphasizes skill development by using quick reflexes, swift thinking and accurate passing. The game is often played by professional soccer players to refine and maintain their skills for the outdoor game; and,
WHEREAS, the EWEAA Futsal Club includes a High School team, Middle School team and a Grade School team, who work closely together learning cooperation and sportsmanship; and,
WHEREAS, for the past ten years, EWEAA’s Futsal teams have played in the annual City of Pittsburgh CitiSports Futsal League. This year, Elliott/West End’s 8u, 12u and 15u teams won their respective championships. The 8u and 12u teams were undefeated for the season and the 15u team ended the season with only 1 loss; and,
WHEREAS, in the Fall of 2023, the EWEAA Futsal Club is partnering with Open Field, a Pittsburgh-based non-profit association in Southwest Region, Cameroon Africa Division, to create the greatest soccer community in the entire city out of District 2. Together, they are planning a soccer club to be held at the Mt. Washington Recreation Center; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Elliott West End Athletic Association Futsal Club for a great season and commend them for creating an atmosphere that inspires our youth; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 to be “EWEAA Futsal Club Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
