Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 90th Birthday of Mr. Frank Buratti and commends him for the service he gave to his country and community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, July 15, 2012, to be “Frank Buratti Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Frank A. Buratti was born in the City of Pittsburgh on July 9, 1922 to Pacifico and Elizabeth (Trepassi) Buratti and will celebrate his 90th Birthday with family and friends on July 15th, 2012; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Buratti was the 7th of eight children and at age 5 was among three children in his family who were placed in St. Joseph Orphanage after the passing of his mother where he lived through the Great Depression; and,

WHEREAS, Frank attended Langley High School in Sheraden PA and started his career at J&L Steel as a Crane Operator during which time he met his wife Adeline Amelia Cue at a dance held at St James Church in the West End; and,

WHEREAS, on May 19, 1943 Frank and Adeline were married at St. Martin's Church and resided in the Elliott area of Pittsburgh, later building a home for his bride in Sheraden where he still lives today taking great pride in his yard and flowers; and,

WHEREAS, three months after they were wed, Mr. Buratti was drafted into the service where he served bravely as a member of the Marine Corps' 4th Protective Guard for three years in the Pacific during WWII; and,

WHEREAS, upon discharge from the Marine Corp and several years as a tile apprentice, Corporal Buratti started Frank A. Buratti Tile Company in 1951 and was self-employed for over 60 years and to this day can still point out the homes he worked in and the type and color of tile used on the job; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Buratti has held active memberships in the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, serving as President and Treasurer, past president in the McKees Rocks Lion's Club and for over 52 years has been a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and is a long standing member of the Holy Innocents Church in Sheraden where he attends Mass daily; he has enjoyed such hobbies as hunting, gardening, shooting craps at the Casinos, and is a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers', Penguin's and Pirate's fan; and,
