Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to express gratitude to Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. for their ongoing service and commitment to increasing self-sufficiency in the city of Pittsburgh; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim this weekend, Friday, September 26 - Sunday, September 29, as Pittsburgh Community Services Weekend in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS for 25 years, Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. has been providing services for low-income individuals.  These services, aim to promote self-sufficiency, include employment, education, income management, housing, emergency services, health and nutrition, and many more; and
 
WHEREAS formed under the sponsorship of the Hill House Association in 1983, it took only 2 years for PCSI to be designated as the Community Action Agency for the City of Pittsburgh.  Working to administer Community Development Block Grant funding, the PCSI started the Neighborhood Safety Program to help city residents take an active role in making their neighborhoods safer; and
 
WHEREAS some of the programs that PCSI coordinates include the Neighborhood Safety Program, the Hunger Trust Fund which provides emergency food assistance, Project Life Line a Youth Education Initiative, as well as many more.  All of these programs share the common goals of eliminating poverty and improving the lives of individuals and families in the greater Pittsburgh area.
