WHEREAS, in 1967, Freedom House Ambulance Service was established as the first Paramedic ambulance service in the country thus laying the foundation for ALL future pre-hospital care systems - including the City of Pittsburgh, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services; and,
WHEREAS, the members of the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services devote their careers to saving the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Teams consist of Paramedics, First Responders, Telecommunications Officers, Physicians and Nurses; and
WHEREAS, the Fraternal Association of Professional Paramedics promotes the improvement of pre-hospital medical care through practice, research and community service; and
WHEREAS, the people of Pittsburgh benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of the highly-trained individuals; and
WHEREAS, this being the 34th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Paramedics in making tomorrows happen for our residents; and
WHEREAS, the theme for this anniversary year is "EMS: A PROUD PARTNER IN YOUR COMMUNITY ALL YEAR LONG"; and,
WHEREAS, the designation of Emergency Medical Services Week will serve to educate the people of Pittsburgh regarding Emergency Medical services.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the good work of the Emergency Medical Teams; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares May 17 through 23, 2009 as Emergency Medical Services Week in the City of Pittsburgh.
