Title
Resolution amending the 2008 Parks and Recreation Fee Schedule so as to provide disabled veterans and families of active duty military and activated reservist/guard members who are city residents a discount on the purchase of FREE pool passes for City of Pittsburgh swimming pools.
Body
WHEREAS, many Pittsburgh residents have served honorably in military service and have sustained disabilities as a result of their selfless service and the City of Pittsburgh has no formal way to recognize their sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, the number of activated reservist and guard units currently deployed in support of anti-terrorist efforts--either in Afghanistan, Iraq, neighboring countries or are involved in "homeland defense" efforts-has increased the number of reserve families, and active duty families not living on or near a military installation and lacking support systems and benefits typically found among families in military housing; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to TITLE FOUR: PUBLIC PLACES AND PROPERTY; ARTICLE XI: PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS; CHAPTER 477: PERMITS AND FEES ยง 477.02 FEES FOR SWIMMING POOLS, GOLF COURSE, SKATING RINKS AND OTHER RECREATIONAL FACILITIES of the City Code, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh is charged with annually approving by Resolution a fee schedule for the use of parks and recreational facilities including swimming pool fees.
Be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. The Department of Parks and Recreation Fee Schedule for 2008 is amended to provide the following new categories for pool tag fees for disabled veterans and families of active duty military and activated reservist/guard members able to produce ID, as follows:
Active Duty Military Family Pass $20.00 FREE
(must produce military ID)
Disabled Veteran Adult Pass $10.00 FREE
(must produce Disabled Vet ID or a DD Form 214 - Certification of discharge)
