WHEREAS, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a Spiritual Leader, Humanitarian and Peacemaker who founded the international non-profit The Art of Living; and,

WHEREAS, sine 1981, The Art of Living Foundation has helped millions of people relieve stress and anxiety through breathwork and meditation; and,
WHEREAS, Gurudev is recognized as a leading figure in contemporary meditation and evidence-based techniques that cultivate sustainable joy and peace in daily life; and,
WHEREAS, with a dedication to uplifting humanity, Gurudev instills harmony amongst cultural diversity, internally and within the United States. Service projects such as uniting diverse communities through volunteerism and social initiatives to reduce inner-city violence and crime, create inner and outer harmony which is at the core of global well-being; and,
WHEREAS, Gurudev;s work has inspired a surge of volunteerism and service, with more than 30,000 instructors and over one million volunteers worldwide dedicated to building empowered communities; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Gurudev for his ability to create happiness in a diverse society and inspire millions to service to their community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Thursday, June 22, 2023 to be “The Art of Living Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
