WHEREAS, On June 2, 1900, Flossie Lee Aldridge was born in Opelika, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Flossie Lee Aldridge married Buster Carter and had three children, Mamie Rose, Gurelene and Carl; and
WHEREAS, Flossie worked for the Works Projects Administration, a New Deal program that provided jobs during the Great Depression; and
WHEREAS, Flossie moved to Pittsburgh in 1954 with her son and daughter and two grand-daughters, and lived in Homewood until 2004, when she moved to the Heritage Shadyside; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carter has three children, two still living, ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren (one of whom works for me), and 30 great-great-grandchildren, many of whom will travel from Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma to celebrate her 109th birthday this weekend; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim June 2, 2009, to be designated, "Mrs. Flossie Lee Carter Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
