WHEREAS, John K. Weinstein became Acting County Treasurer in 1999 and thereafter became County Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Weinstein has made it his mission to streamline the Treasurer's Office, saving citizens millions of dollars over the years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Weinstein has increased dog license sales, making Allegheny County the leader in number of licenses sold - over 120,000 a year, and Mr. Weinstein was presented the "Human Hero Award" by Animal Friends Inc., for his effective work in licensing and protecting dogs, and also was recognized by a national magazine for his creative Collar-ID dog licensing program; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Weinstein is a member of many boards and civic groups, such as The Roberto Clemente Foundation, Animal Friends Inc., Pennsylvania State Tax Collectors Association, Italian Sons and Daughters of America, Variety Club of Western Pennsylvania, and the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania ; and
WHEREAS, on February 17, 2011, at the Third Annual Mid-Atlantic Community Fund Dinner, Mr. Weinstein was named The Samuel Staten Sr. Community Person of the Year, for his community service;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate John K. Weinstein on being named Person of the Year by the Mid-Atlantic Community Fund, and does hereby declare February 22, 2011, to be "John K. Weinstein Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
