Resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a Donation Agreement with Artist Jane Haskell in order to officially accept the donation of "Windows of Light", a neon sculpture for inclusion in the City's art collection.

BE IT RESOVLED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PITTSBUERGH HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
Whereas, Artist Jane Haskell was previously commissioned to create an original neon installation, "Windows of Light", for Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts; and
Whereas, the Massachusetts Port Authority is building a new facility at Logan Airport that cannot accommodate this work and has returned it to Ms. Haskell, along with the copyright;
Whereas, the sculpture is currently being stored by the City of Pittsburgh, awaiting a new site; and
Whereas, Ms. Haskell has generously offered to donate "Windows of Light" to the City of Pittsburgh; and
Whereas, the City's Department of City Planning has conducted an in-house review and has recommended acceptance of this gift; and
Whereas, the City would now like to officially accept this donation and has agreed to work on finding a proper location for its installation. Should the City not be able to relocate the artwork on City property within two years, it will follow its deaccessioning procedures for removing the artwork from its collection;
Whereas, the City now wishes to officially enter into a Donation Agreement to accept the donation of "Windows of Light".
Now; therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
Section 2.
On behalf of the City of Pittsburgh, the Mayor is authorized to enter into a Donation Agreement with Artist Jane Haskell in order to officially accept "Windows of Light" for inclusion in the City's art collection. Attached hereto as Exhibit A is a letter from Jane Haskell indicating her intent to give the artwork to the City as a gift.
