WHEREAS, on January 13th, 1906 the first Serbian Orthodox Church incorporated in The South Side at 123 South 25th Street as Saint George Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church as a place of worship for the first Serbian people in Pittsburgh to join together and preserve their heritage; and
WHEREAS, as August 4th 1935 a group of Serbians decided to form their own parish, Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church; and
WHEREAS, with a deep commitment to their faith the Serbian community overcame strife, two World Wars, the Great Depression, cramped quarters and other challenges; and
WHEREAS, on December 4th 1961 unity was achieved with the formation of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral which stands as a testament to the rich religious and cultural identity of the Serbian People in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, on this centennial anniversary The Serbian Orthodox Church of Pittsburgh celebrates their faith, their common traditions and history of the past 100 years while continuing to build their legacy for the future;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral and thank the members of the Serbian Orthodox Church for their contribution to the City of Pittsburgh
