Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks Ann Tobin-Ritchie for her unselfish dedication to the staff and students of the Pittsburgh Public Schools and wishes her much happiness in her retirement and all future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Tuesday, July 5, 2005 is declared "ANN TOBIN-RITCHIE DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh. SPONSORED BY MR. DFEASY

WHEREAS, after 35 years of dedicated service to the Pittsburgh Public Schools Ann Tobin-Ritchie has chosen to retire; and
 
WHEREAS, Ann Tobin-Ritchie grew up in the Sheraden Neighborhood of the  20th Ward of the City of Pittsburgh, attended Holy Innocents School from 1st through 12th grades, then  attended West Virginia University, where she received a degree in Education and she later received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, Ann began her career with the Pittsburgh Public Schools in 1969 at Gladstone High School, but has taught at many other Pittsburgh Public Schools including, Burgwin, Philip Murray, Beltzhoovr, Brookline, Concord, Madison and Beechwood Elementary Schools and she started everyday with her signature greeting of "Morning Glory, everything is just fine"; and
 
WHEREAS, early in her career Ann was chosen to teach a Title 1 Program at St. Stephens School;  this program was part of President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society Plan; and
 
WHEREAS, Ann has held many administrative positions, she oversaw reading programs throughout the school system, served on book review committees recommending books for use in the classrooms and 7 years ago, with 5 parents, she started a monthly book club which has expanded to over 30 parents with almost perfect attendance each month; and
 
WHEREAS, Ann Tobin-Ritchie whose lifelong motto of "All children can learn" has been a  very caring and nurturing teacher and administrator always having time for students and parents alike.
