Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System for their recognition of the veterans who are cared for at VA Medical Centers across the nation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the week of February 13 through 19, 2006 be hereby declared "National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Program was established as an official Department of Veterans Affairs program in March 1978, and is celebrated each year during the week of February 14th; and,
 
WHEREAS, the purpose of this national program is threefold: to pay tribute and express appreciation to hospitalized veterans; to increase community awareness of the role of medical centers; and, to encourage individuals to visit hospitalized veterans and to become involved as volunteers; and,
 
WHEREAS, the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System will celebrate the 32nd National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans during Valentine's Day week in February, 2006; and,
 
WHEREAS, the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System is celebrating the 2006 National Salute at the University Drive Division on Tuesday, February 14th, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Highland Drive Division on Friday, February 17th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., and at the H.J. Heinz Division on Friday, February 17th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.; and,
 
WHEREAS, the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System invites community organizations and individuals to visit a veteran during the National Salute as a special way to show loyalty and appreciation, and to provide comfort and encouragement for these deserving men and women who served our country in military uniform and who are now facing personal battles of illness, pain and loneliness; and,
