WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh-based international literary journal, Creative Nonfiction, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year; and
WHEREAS, this journal, published from Walnut Street in Shadyside, has been quoted, talked about, and promoted from Harvard to Dublin to Sydney, Australia and Laramie, Wyoming; and
WHEREAS, the Editorial Advisory Board of Creative Nonfiction boasts such talents as Annie Dilliard, Lea Simonds, Laurie Graham, Patricia Park, Tracy Kidder, Gay Talese, and many other well known writers, including its editor, Pittsburgh's own Lee Gutkind; and
WHEREAS, in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of Creative Nonfiction, several events have been planned for November 2003, including events at the University of Pittsburgh, the South Side's Brewhouse Performance Center, and two area Barnes and Nobles; and
WHEREAS, through their writing and tireless travels, the members of the Creative Nonfiction Foundation have served as goodwill ambassadors for the City of Pittsburgh, its history, and its people.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Mr. Lee Gutkind and the members of the Creative Nonfiction Foundation for their talents and love of writing, and wishes Creative Nonfiction continued success in literature.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the first week of November 2003, be hereby declared "Creative Nonfiction Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
