WHEREAS, in response to the impact the COVID 19 pandemic has had on food security for many families in Pittsburgh, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh teamed up with Fogo De Chão Restaurant staff members, a Brazilian steakhouse located in Downtown Pittsburgh, to provide emergency meals and groceries to families in need; and,
WHEREAS, Community helping community was the ultimate solution while taking people over profit during these challenging times as stated by Mr. Gary White Sales Manager of Fogo De Chao; and,
WHEREAS, the effort was organized thanks to the partnership with Marissa Williams, Associate Vice President for Community Outreach and Impact for the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, in response to closures of the Homewood and Hazelwood YMCA buildings, 2 branches of the Pittsburgh YMCA that served emergency food services; and,
WHEREAS, with the assistance of the Gaucho Chefs and staff members from Fogo De Chao, prepackaged meals were prepared and donated to the YMCA for distribution via their Y on the Fly van, a mobile program that pops up to bring 90 minutes of activity and healthy snacks to the city’s underserved neighborhoods; and.
WHEREAS, Fogo de Chão was able to provide Family style meals for 80 plus families with butcher shop meats along with produce wrapped and ready for delivery in the 2-month pledge with YMCA; the meal packages were delivered 3 times a week in these months and contained 2 meats and 2 sides, enough for as many as 11 family members;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and thank the partnership between Fogo de Chão Restaurant and the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh for providing services to insecure families during the COVID19 pandemic.
