WHEREAS, Weisshouse, based in Shadyside and one of Pittsburgh's premier family-owned businesses, is now observing its 50th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Weisshouse, nee` Modern Curtain and Rug, started as a carpet and curtain store and has developed into a stellar, award winning one-stop shop for all interior design needs; and
WHEREAS, Weisshouse has been blessed with creative owners, who understand how people would like to live; and
WHEREAS, Weisshouse daughter, Stacy Weiss, who has been called a "woman with style and substance," by no less than Metropolitan Home, a national design magazine, currently runs Weisshouse with panache; and
WHEREAS, Weisshouse patriarch Jack Weiss, an artist who has exhibited his paintings in galleries and museums from Pittsburgh to Provincetown, has provided artistic vision combined with the style and taste of a seasoned rug man; and
WHEREAS, Weisshouse son, Lou Weiss, along with partner Dan Droz, through humor that has run the gamut from bawdy to just plain bad, led Weisshouse through a series of classic print ads that gave the store its distinctive kicky personality; and
WHEREAS, Weisshouse daughter Ellen Kander and daughter-in-law Amy Weiss, son-in-law Gregg Kander, with assistance from Amy's mother Sandra Steiner and Jack's wife Andi Weiss, and even more help from a devoted staff, some of whom have worked with the Weisses for over 20 years, have helped the business maintain its family feel with a sophisticated edge.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes Weisshouse for 50 good years of developing into one of Pittsburgh's signature businesses and wishes it well for the next 50 years.
