WHEREAS, Global Solutions Pittsburgh, founded in 1947, works tirelessly to foster international education, communication, and understanding; and
WHEREAS, the local chapter of Citizens for Global Solutions, Global Solutions Pittsburgh brings the work of ending international wars and conflicts, connecting people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and creating enriching education programs to the local level; and
WHEREAS, through their public programs and in-school education sessions, Global Solutions Pittsburgh exposes people of the Pittsburgh region to world issues and events that they may not otherwise be aware of but that could have a huge impact on the United States politically and economically; and
WHEREAS, Global Solutions Pittsburgh also provides professional development opportunities for teachers and experiential learning programs - like Model United Nations and Model European Union - for students to supplement the existing curriculum and provide for a more diverse set of educational opportunities in the region; and
WHEREAS, in 2009, Global Solutions Pittsburgh developed and launched the Pittsburgh Human Rights Network, an online communication forum designed to connect individuals, student groups, professional organizations, faith-based groups, and community organizations and allow them to more easily coordinate and share information to raise awareness and take action to promote international human rights; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, June 14th Global Solutions Pittsburgh will hold their 63rd annual spring fundraiser at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts at 6pm.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Global Solutions Pittsburgh for their commitment to international education and advocacy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 5, 2012 to be "Global Solutions Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
