WHEREAS, Wayne Lester was a dedicated City of Pittsburgh Firefighter for over 20 years, based out of the Arlington Fire station; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Lester was a dedicated member of the Arlington Community, having served as on the Arlington Civic Council community group for 25 years; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Lester organized many community service events, including the Arlington Pumpkin Patch and the annual Arlington Civic Council raffle, events which helped many in the Arlington neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, after retirement from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Mr. Lester became an avid traveler and woodworker, demonstrating his generous and kind spirit by making birdhouses for many of his friends and neighbors throughout Arlington; and,
WHEREAS, to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Mr. Lester the City of Pittsburgh has dedicated the Arlington apple orchard parklet in his name as the “Wayne Lester Memorial Orchard;” and,
WHEREAS, City Council joins the Department of Public Works and the Arlington Civic Council in celebrating the rededication of the Wayne Lester Memorial Orchard by installing and dedicating a new memorial sign, which will serve as a remembrance of Mr. Lester’s life and dedication to the people of Pittsburgh; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate the Wayne Lester Memorial Orchard, and thanks Mr. Lester and his family for their advocacy and support of the Arlington neighborhood, and does hereby declare Saturday, October 22nd to be “Wayne Lester Memorial Orchard Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
