Title: WHEREAS, Melinda McCormick began her career with the City of Pittsburgh in the Department of Parks and Recreation in 1994 and has served over 30 years with our Senior Centers; and,

WHEREAS, Melinda McCormick began her career with the City of Pittsburgh in the Department of Parks and Recreation in 1994 and has served over 30 years with our Senior Centers; and,

WHEREAS, Melinda began as a part-time Recreation Leader summer helper at the Perry South Senior Center, which was one of the 21 senior centers operating at that time. In 1996, she was promoted to a full-time Recreation Leader 1 later being promoted to Recreation Leader 2; and,

WHEREAS, in 2010 she became the Senior Center Director of the North Side Center. After that center closed, she was transferred to the Homewood Senior Center, where she still serves today. Melinda has the most seniority as a Senior Center Director and Recreation Leader 1; and,

WHEREAS, Melinda started her education attending Community College majoring in nursing, her first passion. After being an intern at a City of Pittsburgh Senior Center, she fell in love working with the seniors of Pittsburgh. She has since devoted her life to the seniors; and,

WHEREAS, she credits her success to then North Side Center Director David Mileski who mentored and instructed her in all she knows. She freely gives her institutional knowledge to anyone who asks, and she shows respect and kindness to all; and,

WHEREAS, Melinda was an only child of two loving parents who are still living, and grew up with 22 aunts and uncles. She is a lifelong city resident of the North Side of Pittsburgh, where she raised her 3 sons and 1 daughter. Her children grew up watching their mother do what she loves. She is also a grandmother to her 3-year-old granddaughter who she adores; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Melinda McCormick for her years of service to the City of Pittsburgh and its senior residents; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, June 4, 2024 to be "Melinda McCormick Day...
