WHEREAS, on Wednesday, April 27, the Amen Corner will be hosting the 56th Annual Judicial Reception at the Carlton Restaurant; and,
WHEREAS, this year the Amen Corner will be honoring Ms. Dorie Bayne Schnippert as the recipient of Amen Corner Special Recognition; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Schnippert’s career at the Allegheny County Bar Association spanned four and a half decades from 1970 to 2015, starting as only the seventh person to be hired on the professional staff at the Bar Association, which has grown from an enrollment of 1,600 at the beginning of her career to over 6,000 members today; and,
WHEREAS, during the Ms. Schnippert’s career with the Bar Association she served many different roles vital to the daily operations and strategic mission of the association, including clerical duties, managing in-house printing, serving on various committees, leading program planning, organizing social events, and preparing networking receptions, among many other important tasks; and,
WHEREAS, some of the many highlights of Ms. Schnippert’s career include her work with the Lawyer Referral Service, which was completely redesigned under her direction; the creation of a continuing legal education program at ACBA, serving as the department director; program screening for the ACBA’s Indigent Divorce Program, work as Administrative Assistant/Office Manager with the responsibility of handling various personnel duties, including securing health insurance coverage for the female employees of the ACBA, a benefit that before her time was offered only to the male employees, and finally drafting and implementing the first personnel manual used by the ACBA; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and celebrates the career and accomplishments of Ms. Dorie Bayne Schnippert, and does hereby declare Wednesday, April 27, 2016 to be “Dorie Bayne Schnippert Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
