Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the work of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation and commend their unwavering dedication to humanitarian efforts both locally and globally and encourage all citizens to join in their mission of service and compassion; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Saturday, October 26, 2024 to be "Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation makes tremendous contributions in promoting peace and goodwill across the globe. The leadership and dedication to service of the current Rotary International President, Dr. Stephanie Urchick, exemplifies the spirit of Rotary; and,

WHEREAS, Rotary International has been at the forefront of the global fight against polio, striving to eradicate this devastating disease through immunization, education, and community outreach, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to health and well-being for all; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to their efforts in fighting polio, Rotary clubs worldwide, including the Pittsburgh region, have made significant impacts through various initiatives, fostering community engagement and improving lives; and,

WHEREAS, the local Rotary clubs have successfully raised $125,000 for Guardian Angels Service Animals, ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the support they need and the Rotary community helped break a Guinness World Record by raising over $70,000 in a single day for The Pink Lemonade Stand at Acrisure Stadium supporting breast cancer research; and,

WHEREAS, the dedicated members of Rotary have worked tirelessly to deliver meals and gifts to families in District 2 of the City of Pittsburgh during the Holiday season, spreading joy and kindness to those who may be struggling; and,

WHEREAS, these exemplary acts of service reflect the core values of Rotary: service above self, fellowship, and a commitment to making the world a better place; and,
