WHEREAS, for the last five years, Madison Johnson has been practicing shooting marbles, and her hard work and dedication paid off, with a championship win at the 95th National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood, N.J.; and
WHEREAS, Madison is Allegheny County’s 14th national championship since 2004, and the 2nd recent championship winner from District 7, continuing the long tradition of excellence from our region; and
WHEREAS, along with winning the championship, Madison also received a $2,000 college scholarship, a tournament-themed watch and crown, and all-expense paid trip back to Wildwood the following year where she will inducted into the National Marbles Tournament Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, in addition to winning the championship, she also won the Walt Lease memorial award, which is presented to the player who has the best overall record in Preliminary play, where Madison scored 42-10 over 3 days; and
WHEREAS, Madison also took home the award for most sticks (when a player shoots out 7 marbles in one turn) at the same tournament, where she won that award with 4 sticks; and
WHEREAS, Madison’s coach recognizes her determination to do her best, noting her years of effort and commitment to practicing every day leading up to the tournament; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Madison Johnson for her dedication to excellence and congratulate her on her recent championship win; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 31st, 2018 to be “Madison Johnson Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
