Whereas, on Sunday, September 12, 2004, the Pittsburgh Division of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition will sponsor the 4^th annual Karen F. Bowers Walk for the Whisper; and

Whereas, in the year 2000, cancer survivors Karen Bowers, Julene Fabrizio, and Carolyn Gardner founded the Pittsburgh Division of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, which has significantly raised awareness about ovarian cancer in the area with community outreach programs; and

Whereas, the Pittsburgh NOCC, through programs such as Picking Up the Pieces and Ovarian Cancer Support Group, allows ovarian cancer patients and survivors to support one another and work through the difficulties of living with this disease; and

Whereas, this coalition has established the Patient Care Fund that provides immediate financial assistance for the short-term needs of those diagnosed with ovarian cancer for expenses that include medication, transportation, and overnight lodging while in treatment; and.

Whereas, over 25,000 women will be diagnosed with this disease this year.
