WHEREAS, in 1991, the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod, represented by Reverend Silas Ncozana and the Pittsburgh Presbytery (Presbyterian Church of U.S.A.), represented by Reverend William Paul, developed an agreement to partner churches in southern Malawi with churches in Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, since then, forty Pittsburgh churches have been paired with partner churches in southern Malawi. Together, they have changed lives by such projects as rehabilitating Malawian schools, churches and hospitals, modelled early childhood education programs and teacher training, supported a model farm and its training programs, and provided significant amounts of food during Malawi’s recurring famines, just to name a few; and,
WHEREAS, in 2013, the partnership expanded to include the South Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church in South Sudan which expands their vision to be and to serve the global church; and,
WHEREAS, the International Partnership between Pittsburgh Presbytery, CCAP Synod of Blantyre, and the South Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church is celebrating its Silver Anniversary with a reception and dinner on Sunday, July 31 at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church followed by a worship service; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the international partnership that was formed between Pittsburgh Presbytery and the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian and their mission of relationship building; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 26, 2016, to be “Presbyterian International Partnership Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
