WHEREAS, Speaking of
was started in November to bring the art form of the spoken word to the North Side; and
WHEREAS, started by Phinehas Hodges, Zoe Hooley, Alaina Dopico and Helen Ewing all from the North Side; and
WHEREAS, the monthly home base of Speaking of
is the Amani Coffeehouse and Cafe on Foreland Street where guest artists from around the country perform their wares; and
WHEREAS, each program beings with a musician, followed by a poet, a fiction reader and a word artist and the next Speaking of
will be May 21 at the Amani Cafe; and
WHEREAS, these young artists aspire to grow the audience, bringing in a diverse group of patrons from a grassroots level from all over the city making their monthly programs into a "happening" while growing appreciation for the art form of the spoken word; and
WHEREAS, Speaking of
is a title that can be used with any program they choose to do whether it be an entire music program or the Speaking of Noir scheduled at the New Hazlett Theater on June 18;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends Speaking of
and its founders for bringing spoken word art, to Pittsburgh and the North Side and does declare Tuesday, May 3, 2011 "Speaking of
Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
