WHEREAS located at 2720 Webster Avenue in Pittsburgh's Hill District, the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church will be celebrating its 200th anniversary with a series of special events to be held from June 8-June 15, 2008; and
WHEREAS the Bethel A.M.E. Church is the first, African Methodist Episcopal Church West of the Allegheny Mountains, as well as the oldest African American congregation located within the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS over the past two centuries, the Bethel A.M.E. Church has undergone many changes, as it has moved to different locations within the City and made benefit of the teachings and leadership of a number of different Pastors; and
WHEREAS despite these many changes, one thing has remained constant for the Bethel A.M.E. Church throughout the years: The Church's on-going commitment to the fostering of social, economic, and racial justice throughout all segments of the community; and
WHEREAS under the guidance of Bethel A.M.E. Church's current Bicentennial Committee, a distinguished list of individuals that includes
