WHEREAS, more than 1.5 million Americans suffer from the effects of Parkinson's disease, an incurable neurological disorder; and
WHEREAS, more than 60,000 new cases of the disease are diagnosed each year in the United States; and
WHEREAS, there are an estimated 10,000 people living with Parkinson's disease in Western Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, The National Parkinson Foundation Western PA (NPFWPA) was founded to serve Parkinson patients through education, activities and research; and,
WHEREAS, since 1995, NPFWPA has successfully served Parkinson patients by establishing support groups and activities, providing education and publicity concerning the disease, and providing support for research; and,
WHEREAS, "Moving Day Pittsburgh", the annual fundraiser for the NPFWPA, is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Highland Park Reservoir; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby acknowledge and commend the National Parkinson Foundation Western PA for its contributions to people with Parkinson disease, as well as its service to all of the citizens of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 27, 2014, to be "NPFWPA Moving Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
