WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 1, 2011, in observance of the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, Journeys of Life and the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center will host their third annual interfaith Celebration and Blessing of Animals from 11am until 5pm at 810 Bellefonte Street in Shadyside; and
WHEREAS, all proceeds of the event benefit the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center, a nonprofit open-door shelter in the East End providing adoption services, foster homes, veterinarian care, behavioral training, and animal welfare advocacy for the greater Pittsburgh community; and
WHEREAS, the family-friendly event will feature a dog groomer, animal psychic, dog food companies, and pet supply stores; and
WHEREAS, the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center will be accepting donations of dog and cat food, blankets, and towels, and will also provide on-site cat adoptions; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Journeys of Life and the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center for their contributions and commitment to the advocacy and welfare of the animals of Pittsburgh; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 1, 2011 "Celebration and Blessing of Animals Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
