WHEREAS, since its founding in 1888, Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania (BGCWPA) has activated and advanced the potential of youth and placed them on a path toward great futures. BGCWPA's programming offers young people the opportunity to cultivate skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) that will lead to family-sustaining careers in emerging fields, participate in the arts and express themselves creatively, learn and play sports, boost their self-esteem, academic abilities, and professional skills, and build courage and positive values; and,

WHEREAS, guided by the International Women's Day movement and in celebration of Women's History Month, BGCWPA hosts its annual Empower Her event to celebrate reflection, advocacy, and action for young women; and,
WHEREAS, the event provides young female-identifying individuals with a safe space to socialize and have fun with their peers, hear from influential female speakers, participate in activities centered around body positivity, craft making, healthy lifestyles, and personal growth, and most importantly, celebrate being female; and,
WHEREAS, in the last three years, hundreds of young girls from across the Pittsburgh region have attended Empower Her events, and the majority of the attendees reported that the event increased their confidence, creativity, happiness, and connection to others and instilled in them the ability to improve their mental health and wellness, self-care, and social skills; and,
WHEREAS, this year, on Saturday, March 26th, 2022, BGCWPA will host the fourth annual Empower Her event with the theme of "I Can," which will inspire female-identifying youth to change the world, instill in them the confidence to pursue their dreams, and ensure that attendees know that they can do anything they set their minds to.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania for hosting its ...
