WHEREAS, the Light of Life Rescue Mission, founded in 1952, is a center of hope and care for the hungry, poor, and homeless, whose goal is to transform the lives of men, women, and children through the Housing, Employment, Income, Recovery and Spiritual Program (HEIRS) which includes a twelve month recovery program, emotional/ mental disorders management, and a family assistance program; and
WHEREAS, from 2004 to 2005 HEIRS assisted nine-hundred and sixty-seven individuals, served one-hundred thousand meals to the hungry, provided forty-three thousand nights of safe shelter for the homeless, in addition to offering one-hundred and ten thousand hours of recovery services, education, and work training; and
WHEREAS, for the past five years former Steelers, Tunch Ilkin and Craig Wolfey, have organized Tunch & Wolf's Walk for the Homeless, a fun way for Pittsburghers to unite in their support of the Light of Life Rescue Mission; and
WHEREAS, the 10k walk taking place this year at ten a.m. on Saturday, May 6, is expected to include Steeler celebrities, familiar faces from the media, and more than one thousand men, women, children, and teens committed to helping the two thousand homeless people in the greater Pittsburgh area.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares May 6, 2006 as "Light of Life Rescue Mission Day."
