WHEREAS, the Linden Garden Club was founded in 1924 by Mrs. William H. Mercur and the membership was made up of women from the Point Breeze neighborhoods surrounding Linden Elementary School; and,

WHEREAS, over the past 100 years the Linden Garden Club has worked to raise money for Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, The Western PA Audubon Society, The Pittsburgh Parks and Recreation Division of the City of Pittsburgh, The Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens, The Western PA Conservancy, and other organizations in Allegheny County that support their mission.; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of Linden Garden Club is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to aid in the preservation of native plants and birds and to encourage interest in civic beauty and preservation; and,
WHEREAS, the club has founded and supported gardens in Mellon Park, Schenley Park, and now at the Bob O'Connor Golf Course on Schenley Drive.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Linden Garden Club’s vibrant and diverse organization of members who share a passion for gardening, horticulture, and conservation; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, May 19, 2024, to be "LINDEN GARDEN CLUB DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
