WHEREAS, Angel Wings from the Heart was founded by Sue Caruso who was approached by a special mom to create tiny angel gowns for parents who are mourning over the loss of an infant; and,
WHEREAS, every year over 20,000 infants die in the United States before their first birthday; the loss of a baby remains a sad reality for many families and often times these families are faced with the task of searching through bins of donated clothing at the hospital to find something for their child to wear during their final moments together; and,
WHEREAS, often times they are just wrapped in tiny hospital blankets or towels and that is where Angel Wings from the Heart comes in; Sue along with the tremendous help of Denise Bergles DeSiderio, recruits volunteers who help take donated wedding gowns apart, cut out patterns, sew outfits and add embellishments so that each gown or tux is unique; and,
WHEREAS, these gowns are being donated to the local Pittsburgh area NICUs for the nurses to offer to the parents of angel babies in hopes of easing some of the pain of a life that ended before it had a chance to begin; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Angel Wings from the Heart for helping parents create a memory and bring tranquility to a heartbreaking moment; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 23, 2014, to be "Angel Wings from the Heart Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
