WHEREAS, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition, a non-profit community organization, has since its inception thirty two years ago, dedicated itself to preserving and improving the quality-of-life in the 14th Ward of the City Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition continues to provide leadership to the community through a volunteer based membership; and,
WHEREAS, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition fosters community based initiatives in the areas of education, public safety, transportation, commercial, institutional, and residential development, parks and open spaces; and,
WHEREAS, annually, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition Citizens of the Year Dinner honors individuals from the Squirrel Hill community who have demonstrated the commitment, dedication and perseverance crucial to the success of the neighborhood and the City of Pittsburgh at large; and,
WHEREAS, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition Citizens of the Year 2004 are Pittsburghers who represent the facets of any successful community: business, community and education; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. F. Robert McMurray, Senator Jay Costa and Jeffrey Rosenthal, will be honored at this years Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition Citizen of the Year Award Dinner, for the work they do in the community.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition's Citizens of the Year - Dr. F. Robert McMurray ,Senator Jay Costa and Jeffrey Rosenthal ; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition for its continued work in the community and does hereby declare Thursday, October 14, 2004, "Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
