WHEREAS, Dawn Webb Turner was born in Wilkinsburg and was raised in the Homewood-Brushton area, she attended George Westinghouse High School where she participated in a host of after school activities. She played on two City League Championship Girls Basketball Teams, worked as an Administrative Assistant Intern at WTAE-TV Channel 4, and during her senior year was named Homecoming Queen; and
WHEREAS, in January of 2006, Ms. Turner created Our House Development, Inc. This organization was designed to help increase financial literacy, and it concentrates on the principals of education, credit restoration, financial consultation, and real estate; and
WHEREAS, Our House Development Inc. encourages the youth of our communities to learn history, culture, science, math, business, and finance. The fundamental goal of Our House Development is to help prepare students to become young entrepreneurs, while utilizing the arts and culture as a positive example to educate, promote, and re-establish self-pride; and
WHEREAS, the concept of having an "Annual Community Economics Awareness and Appreciation Benefit" derived from the need to educate the youth about the rich history of the City of Pittsburgh. This initiative engages the hearts and minds of our children, while helping them to realize a sense of self-worth; and

Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes Dawn Webb Turner for her many accomplishments, leading by example, and for her commitment to educating the community; and
Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim October 25, 2008, to be designated, "Annual Community Economics Awareness and Appreciation Benefit Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
