Title: WHEREAS, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure , Pittsburgh began in 1992 as a project of the National Council of Jewish Women known as the Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure; and, WHEREAS; the Race organization became a full affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, changing its name to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pittsburgh in order to connect to the Race for the Cure Series and to raise awareness to find the cure; and, WHEREAS, of the 126 Komen Affiliate Races, the Pittsburgh's Race is in the top ten in size of all the Komen Races; and, WHEREAS, Mona Colicchie will chair and Karen Lubinski will co-chair the 2007 Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pittsburgh; and, WHEREAS, the Honorary Chairs for 2007 are Pat Siger, Laurie Moser and Eileen Lane, who as volunteers for the National Council of Jewish Women brought the idea to the organization in 1992 and staged the first Race on Mother's Day 1993 with 3000 participants; and, WHEREAS, of all the dollars raised in Pittsburgh, 75% w...

      WHEREAS; the Race organization became a full affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, changing its name to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pittsburgh in order to connect to the Race for the Cure Series and to raise awareness to find the cure; and,
 
WHEREAS, of the 126 Komen Affiliate Races, the Pittsburgh's Race is in the top ten in size of all the Komen Races; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mona Colicchie will chair and Karen Lubinski will co-chair the 2007 Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, of all the dollars raised in Pittsburgh, 75% will stay in this area and 25% will help fund the national grants programs that provide cutting edge research grants throughout the United States; and,
 
WHEREAS, this year's 15th Anniversary Race for the Cure will be held on May 13, 2007, in Schenley Park, expecting over 35,000 participants and projecting to raise $2.5 million dollars.
 
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the important work of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pittsburgh affiliate; and,
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, May 13,2007,  to be Susan G. Komen for the Cure Day  in the City of Pittsburgh.
