Title
WHEREAS, Dress for Success Pittsburgh aims to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development training; and
WHEREAS, each client is referred to Dress for Success by a non-profit organization and receives one suit and appropriate accessories when she has a job interview and additional apparel when she becomes employed; and
WHEREAS, every woman who comes to Dress for Success is treated with respect and dignity; and
WHEREAS, much of the clothing that is distributed comes from women who donate to in order to help another woman succeed; and
WHEREAS, once clients become employed, they are eligible to participate in Dress for Success's Professional Women's Group, which supports women as they navigate a corporate environment; and
WHEREAS, the Professional Women's Group also convenes monthly meetings on topics related to professional development and financial literacy; and
WHEREAS, the Professional Women's Group of Dress for Success Pittsburgh is being honored in a special episode of Style Network's "How Do I Look?" show on Monday, March 12, 2007; and
WHEREAS, March 12th also marks the beginning of the organization's annual Send One Suit, or S.O.S., drive.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Dress for Success for its efforts to distribute professional clothing to women in need; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares March 6, 2007, "Dress for Success Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
